Guatemala Summer 2021 Service Learning Exchange

HOPE’S IN is hosting our annual Summer Service Learning Exchage program to work alongside families in Zone 3 of Guatemala City. However, this year, unlike ever before, our service projects will be virtual!

Over the past ten years, our focus in Guatemala City has been on projects such as building homes, hosting medical clinics and spending time with our sponsored children in Zone 3. Over 13,000 people live in Zone 3 and are either partially or completely reliant on the city’s garbage dump for means of survival. These projects are done through our partnership with the organization Potter’s House Association. During our week in Guatemala, we not only serve wonderful families but we also are focused on the development of the next generation of humanitarian leaders. Families and student volunteers join us on this trip and/or help us plan for the trip throughout the year.

This year, we are bringing the Service Learning Exchange to Barrington’s front door! Due to our desire to operate with an abundance of caution in the face of the pandemic, we will not be bringing volunteers to Zone 3 and instead hosting a three day virtual service opportunity. Our volunteers will gather together in Barrington, IL to Zoom with various groups in Guatemala!

Our belief is that service gives people an opportunity for a more purposeful life, a way to discover personal talents and passions, and allows people to act compassionately. We hope you will consider joining us on our virtual service trip to Guatemala in 2021!
