OUR
CAUSE

13,000 PEOPLE

LIVE IN THE GUATEMALA CITY GARBAGE DUMP COMMUNITIES.
MORE THAN 50% ARE CHILDREN.

A HUMANITARIAN CRISIS THAT NEEDS IMMEDIATE RELIEF

People living in the garbage dump communities face immense social, political, physical, and psychological challenges. Each community is plagued with physical, sexual and drug abuse. The conditions of these communities have drawn international attention by NGO’s and activists.

Fighting stray dogs for scraps of food in the garbage dump, young children fearing cat sized rats that bite in the night; It’s hard to believe that people live in such conditions but thousands in Guatemala City do.

HOPE’S IN seeks to empower the most vulnerable populations within these communities. We work most closely with young mothers, persons with disabilities, and families who do not yet have cinderblock homes. We know that the families we work alongside have so much potential and the ability to impact those around them.

Yet, amidst the challenges, families are working hard to provide for their children, showing the world what resilience looks like and collaborating with organizations like ours who innovatively want to impact their communities together.

HOPE’S IN ACTIVELY WORKS TO BRING A NEW FUTURE
TO THOSE LIVING IN THESE COMMUNITIES
