On April 27th, I turn 11 years old!
I’ve decided that rather than receiving birthday gifts this year, I’d like try and help families living in the Guatemala City Garbage Dump Community.
Last summer I had the wonderful experience of joining the Hope’s In organization on a trip to Guatemala to build homes for families in need. I got to see in person how Hope’s In positively changes the lives of the people in this community in a BIG way by providing them with permanent housing. More than 50% of these people in need are children like me.
HOPE’S IN raises money to build houses, providing safe shelter for families in desperate need of a stable home. One house costs between $5,500-$7,500 to construct.
My birthday goal is to raise $800.00 or more to help with the material costs for one house.
This summer, with my mom and other Barrington students and families, I will be returning to Guatemala City to help construct houses with the HOPE’S IN organization. I look forward to learning a lot from these wonderful families.
