“The 6th annual Hope’s In Style celebrated the return of founder Courtney Quigley McGovern and the many people who have been touched by their involvement in the organization. Graduating early from New York University, McGovern came back to take on the role of Executive Director of Hopes In. The organization she founded after became close to a girl she met while on a mission trip with Potter’s House, an organization that helps those living in the Guatemala City Garbage Dump. She returned home that summer hoping to build a home for the girl and her family. Courtney and her sister Ashley organized the first Hope’s In Style in 2012. […]

“If there were a modern-day poster girl for Barrington Junior Women’s Club (BJWC) and the profound impact the nonprofit organization has had on our community over the last eight decades, it might be Courtney Quigley. The Barrington native and winner of the BJWC’s 2014 Janice Clarke Presidential Scholarship says she has benefited from BJWC-sponsored programs and initiatives all her life. “Whether I knew it or not, I have been touched by BJWC since I was a little girl. Yes, I am a proud graduate of Safety Town!” laughs Quigley, who used her $6,000 scholarship to go on to New York University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in nonprofit organization […]

“Local High School students poured into Stonegate Banquet & Conference Center last Sunday eager to support their friends modeling or responsible for styling this year’s 5th Annual Hope’s In Style Fashion Show. Started by Courtney & Ashley Quigley when they were students at Barrington High School, the show continues to be one of the most popular charitable events drawing teens. This year over 300 people of all ages filled the seats around the runway. The theme ‘Picture This’, featured fashions inspired by photos from the area around the Guatemala City Garbage Dump, which is the area the proceeds go towards.” Read full article here.  Photo courtesy of LIVING60010.

“Barrington High School students planning Sunday’s 5th annual Hope’s in Style Fashion Show aim to raise $75,000 to build ten more homes in Guatemala City this summer. Featuring student stylists and models, the March 12th event could help volunteers raise enough funds to bring the total number of homes built by Hope’s In to thirty-two in the past five years. To help them reach their goal, we’re highlighting Hope’s In as our featured nonprofit of the month for March here at 365Barrington.com.”   Read full article here.

“Hope’s In is a locally founded charitable organization that partners with Potter’s House to raise money in order to build houses and provide help for families in the Garbage Dump Communities of Guatemala City. Mandy and Laura, Potter’s House representatives from Guatemala, were visiting Barrington a few weeks ago. Having traveled to Guatemala with Hope’s In last summer, I was excited to interview them about the work they do in the communities surrounding the Garbage Dump and the impact locally founded Hope’s In has had on their work. Sarika Bhuva: What is Potter’s House role in the Garbage Dump Communities? “Our role is to provide development opportunities for the […]

Sweat dripped down my brow and snaked down my back as I scampered down the alleyway, careful not to trip on an upturned rock. The sun scorched the top of my head but I paid no mind to it as I focused on the task at hand, beating these kids at soccer. I flashed a hard earned smile towards my brother before quickly kicking the ball his way. Rejected! Axel, one of the older boys, intercepted my pass and swiftly dribbled the ball away from us. He shot it past two trashcans and the ball slammed into the wall of a house shaking its tin core. I grimaced and hoped […]

“I feel excited as I prepare to go on the week two trip to Guatemala, since this will be my first mission trip. I can’t wait to serve the people of Guatemala by building houses, working in medical clinics, and helping in other ways. I heard about the trip through Interact’s sponsor, Mr. Quigley, and a few of the student members that had previously participated in the trip. I decided to go on the trip for several reasons. First, I have always been interested in mission trips and going abroad to provide a helping hand for those less privileged. I have a passion for serving others as I feel it […]
