“HOPE'S IN has shown us that hope and joy can be found everywhere, and will always
encourage us to give back.” -Aubrey and Sanjana
This year, on May 1st (Sanjana’s birthday) and May 3rd (Aubrey’s birthday), we turn 16 years old! We have decided that instead of receiving gifts for our Sweet 16 birthdays, we would love to have our loved ones donate to HOPE’S IN this year.
HOPE’S IN is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that empowers impoverished families living in Guatemala. In this unprecedented time, they need our help now more than ever.
These donations will be going directly to the communities HOPE’S IN works alongside in Zone 3 of Guatemala City to provide staple foods. These communities in Zone 3 is a part of Guatemala City where families generally rely on the garbage dump to sell goods and make a living for themselves. These communities struggle greatly with the various forms of poverty and remain one of the main focuses of HOPE’S IN’s efforts.
Our fundraising goal is to raise $1,000 to continue HOPE’S IN’s efforts towards providing supplies and food for families in the garbage dump community during the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to shelter-in-place orders to keep families in Guatemala safe, the garbage dump is not open for families to work in. This has left thousands of people without work and the daily wages they need to feed their families.
Both of us have spent this past year leading and working alongside HOPE’S IN within their internship program to raise awareness and fundraise for these families in Guatemala City. Additionally, we are both hoping to attend the annual Service Trip to Guatemala City this coming August. HOPE’S IN does so much incredible work for these families and both of us have seen the lasting effects firsthand.
I, Sanjana, was actually able to travel to Guatemala last year, and the people I met and the impacts of the homes we built gave me an experience I will never forget. These families radiate and embody such strength despite the fact that they have so little. They truly showed me how lucky I am to have the resources and opportunities that I do.
Thank you for giving the gift the hope!
Sincerely,
Sanjana Shankar and Aubrey Tabor
