Having discovered the joy of the children and families served at the Guatemala City dump communities by HOPES IN, I’ve decided I’d like to try and help families less fortunate than myself.
This past August I spent a week with families and some truly inspiring youth in my community with HOPE’S IN, an organization developed by Barrington area high school students that brings hope to the “treasures” of the Guatemam City garbage dump communities. Locals call them, scavengers. HOPE’S IN calls them God’s Treasures. HOPE’S IN brings teams of children and families to the Guatemala City garbage dump communities and builds homes for deserving families, giving them a sense of security, ownership, and pride. It costs approximately $7,500.00 to build a home, complete with electricity and plumbing.
My HOPE goal is to raise $7,500.00 or more to help underwrite the cost of building a home and to return to Guatemala City in August 2017 with members of my own family to build a home for a deserving one there.
My experience in the garbage dump communities this year has shown me the joy that can be brought to a family in need with just a little effort on our part. The experience was transformative and I received much more in return by being a small part of God’s Treasures in these communities. Please help me bring hope to the treasures of the Guatemala City Dump Community.
