“During their junior year at Barrington High School, twin sisters Ashley and Courtney Quigley (BHS ‘14) started a non-profit organization called Hope’s In. Based in Barrington, the organization aims to empower impoverished families living in Guatemala City. “CHICAGO (WLS) — This holiday season, your can buy cards and gifts that help a nonprofit. Hope’s In works to empower families living in Guatemala. It runs an internship program. “We really made it a goal of ours to make volunteering and service an inclusive experience for everyone, including adults with disabilities,” said Ashley Quigley, Co-Founder of Hope’s In. “CHICAGO (WLS) — A high school trip has now inspired a years-long passion for two women from Barrington. “I actually got an internship when I was 16 years old and I was in Guatemala City,” said Courtney McGovern. “Just being there taught me such a huge lesson about how dignified housing is a human right.” That trip inspired Courtney and her twin sister Ashley to do something. Update written by Katie Rosales, Fortaleza Program Director Last month, we finally found the perfect rental space for Fortaleza’s headquarters in Guatemala City. It’s a big step for our work with Fortaleza women and children. This space will be used for one-on-one psychological therapy, intentional counseling, mentorship, tutoring, and an office space for our two staff members, Katie and Luisa. The space is located just a few blocks away from where most of the girls live. We are looking forward to transforming the place into a refreshing and welcoming refuge for the women we serve.
