New Beginnings and Hope For Three Beautiful Families

After a week of hard work, and well, heart work it was time for our team to say goodbye to Potter’s House and all the Treasures. However, not before giving away three new, beautiful homes. Each home was given to a family that had waited for that refuge for years. These home owners had lived in the garbage dump communities for a large quantity of their lives and this was most likely the first time they had plumbing and running water in their own home. This was the first house with a front door that locked, windows that slid open, and a roof that didn’t allow rain to fall onto their valuables, beds and floor.
Each house dedication was a unique story with three blessed traditions. The first was handing over the keys to the families and watching them open the front door for the first time. The image of a teary-eyed mom, overcome with gratitude embracing a teenage girl from our group after receiving her set of keys sticks in my mind. As I replay this memory, I am always overwhelmed by the sense of peace that mother feels knowing that a barrier from the dangers of the communities now locked in her children, her Treasures, at night.
