” A 2014 graduate of Barrington High School, Courtney McGovern is the executive director of HOPE’S IN, a local nonprofit she co-founded that helps families in need in Guatemala City, Guatemala.
Q: What is HOPE’S IN?
A: Our mission is to empower the people there and help the next generation of humanitarian leaders through our outreach efforts. In the last six years, we’ve focused on community development, such as building homes and medical clinics. We have a medical endowment that helps sustain our partner clinics in Guatemala City, and we’ve recently added a support group there for young and teen mothers. We’re also working with a local group called our Inclusion Committee that supports and organizes in Guatemala City, which works with children with disabilities. We go there annually for two weeks in summer, but we have plans to go more often as these other programs are developing, more skilled volunteers do trainings and seminars and work with the families…”
