Dear Hope’s In community,
“”The treasures of the Guatemala City garbage dump are just that, treasures. I am so blessed to grow up in the United States but unfortunately my level of appreciation can fluctuate depending on my circumstances. As we walk through the dirty alleys and cluttered streets there are so many smiling faces. I want to adopt these peoples outlook on life. So in a sense, I’ll be taking a piece of treasure home with me.”
-Hope’s In Volunteer
Today was one for the books! The houses are ready for concrete to be poured tomorrow, the soccer camp was a blast, and the medical clinic saw more patients! What’s best is we are building relationships with the people we are serving. In one house the volunteers gathered with the family after lunch to learn about the home owner’s dreams. The mother of the house, Araceli, has the dream of becoming a florist. She hopes to attend a floristry school just a few blocks away from her home. We can’t wait to buy a bouquet of flowers from her one day!
Another activity we got to do was serve lunches to the children in Potter’s House’s education program. We made a tunnel for the children to run through as they entered the lunch room. The sound of their laughter as they ran under our arms is something we will cherish forever. It will surely be the most beautiful soundtrack to our summer.
Our love for the Treasures is growing stronger every day. We are moving forward with construction tomorrow with our toughest day of the week—mixing and pouring cement. Please pray for energy and strength for our volunteers.
Thank you for all your notes of encouragement. We feel your love here in Guatemala.
Blessings,
Courtney
